The California Air Resources Board (ARB), through its Innovative Clean Air Technology (ICAT) program, is sponsoring an 80-unit demonstration project in Southern California.
The ICAT program is intended to support emerging technologies that reduce air pollution. (In addition to reducing CO2 emissions, SunCache also reduces NOx emissions from gas water heaters and electric power plants.) ARB has stepped in with the ICAT program to fill a much-needed role by supporting technologies that have completed their R&D phase, but are not yet in widespread commercialization.
The ICAT program will provide homeowners with FREE SunCache equipment. Installation costs are the responsibility of the homeowner. Installation is expected to cost between $1,000 and $2,500 depending on complexity, roof type, and permit fees. Some jurisdictions may require a structural report, which will cost an additional $500. A 12 month parts and labor warranty in included. Remaining costs will qualify for the 30% federal tax credit. These installations should qualify for the AB1470 SWH rebate, which will be about $800 based on SunCache ratings. The CPUC has stated that all installations from July 15, 2009 shall qualify for the AB1470 rebates, for which the IOUs must begin accepting applications no later than April 1, 2010.
To qualify, home must currently be served by Southern California Gas Company or San Diego Gas and Electric. All installations must include building permits. Multi-unit applications are encouraged.
All properly licensed contractors are welcome to participate. Sorry, but do-it-yourself installations do not qualify.
SUNCACHE ICAT UNITS ARE DISTRIBUTED ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS. UNITS ARE SHIPPED AFTER WE RECEIVE A COPIES OF: • installation contract between homeowner and installation firm • permit application showing fees paid
